Walking Dead Season 4 : Blood War & New Leadership?

Walking Dead Season 4 is still shooting but the first episode has wrapped and that means we are getting closer by the day to its release in October.
The new season which is set months after the end of Season 4 has seen the cast shooting in two new scenes. One is a the scene of a downed air plane and the other is some sort of military base which has us questioning whether we will see the Prison in Season 4.
The shows producers have said that the Prison will appear in Season 4 but with the obvious signs of Season 4 shooting at a military base with the Woodsbury survivors present we have to wonder how much of the Prison will be in Season 4.
We have been speculating for a long time on where Season 4 will take The Walking Dead and it seems it will be just as bloody as we expected with some pretty shocking conflict and twists.
If you don’t want to know a few tidbits of what MIGHT happen in Season 4 read no further.
We do know that the Governor will return in a future season since his story is not over but the question is how much of him will see wee in Season 4.
The larger story it seems will focus on the inner strife between father and son as a blood war brews. We have been talking about Carl and Ricks relationship for a very long time after Season 3 ended with Carl not only murdering somebody in cold blood but also declaring that he thinks his father may not be the best leader for the group.
Carl ended Season 3  of The Walking Dead blaming his fathers actions for the death of many of the survivors including Shane and his mother. Robert Kirkman added more fuel to the fire recently when he made it clear that the relationship between Carl and Rick Grimes is going to get much worse. On the AMC blog he told a reader quote;
….I will say that the dynamic between Rick and Carl is going to be a central focus of the season, and it is going to change in some startling and interesting ways.
A blood war between father and son may very well be brewing in Walking Dead Season 4. But could it end in the death of one of the key characters? Robert Kirkman caused major waves online with fans when he said that Rick Grimes was far from safe in Walking Dead Season 4. Kirkman told fans;
We’ve been saying that no one is safe on this show, and I wouldn’t rule out seeing the death of Rick Grimes at almost any point. We really like to keep people guessing, and I could definitely see some interesting stories coming from that.
While Rick has been a pretty solid leader, he’s definitely made his share of mistakes. I think seeing Daryl or Maggie or Glenn picking up a larger leadership role in the group could pose some interesting story possibilities.
So you have Robert Kirkman building buzz by saying that the relationship between Rick and Carl will change in a startling way clearly indicating he will betray his father in Season 4. But would murder be in the cards? Could it be that Carl and Rick’s relationship could end in a deadly feud resulting in the death of Rick or Carl? Dont rule it out this would be a ratings bonanza for AMC with a shocking twist like this. Similar to how they unceremoniously killed off Andrea.
The other interesting rumor is that Daryl will continue to evolve in Season 4 of The Walking Dead taking on a much more prominent role. His character was never in the graphic novels but Norman Reedus has made the character a fan favorite on the TV show. When rumors of his potential death in Season 3 fans literally threatened to riot!
The current speculation is that with conflict between Rick and Carl brewing Daryl will take on a leadership role and take over the group. Will it be a coup? Will Carl support Daryl in taking over the group’s leadership? This would be a pretty big step up for a character that was never in the graphic novel and wasnt even supposed to be in the show.
Reader Ryan spills the goods on Norman Reedus’s audition and how his character came to be;
I don’t know if you knew this or not, But Daryl was never a part of the Walking Dead, When Norman Reedus tried out for the role the directors made a special character for him, Daryl. Norman was originally supposed to be Merle.
I honestly could not even fathom Walking Dead without Norman Reedus as Daryl and there is little question that Season 4 will give us even more of him.
Are you excited for Season 4? Where do you think Kirkman and the shows producers will take it?
