Norman Reedus All Sweaty and Dirty on the set of Walking Dead season 5 on July 2, 2014

It can sometimes be difficult for actors to get back into character after a break from filming.

But Norman Reedus looked ready to shoot as he brandished his crossbow on the set of The Walking Dead in Georgia on Wednesday.

The small screen hunk seemed excited as he interacted with the cast and crew as he began to record scenes for the fifth season of the hit AMC programme.

The 45-year-old former model, who used to date Helena Christensen, looked lean and mean in a leather waistcoat, shirt, jeans and brown boots.

He has found new fame for his eye-catching turns as tough guy hunter Daryl Dixon, whose fighting and tracking skills never fail to come in handy for the show's bumbling troop of survivors,.

Norman has insisted fans will be in for a full on thrill ride when the zombie apocalypse show returns.

He said: 'These scripts are the best scripts so far, and I’m really just excited to be back at it.

'There are a lot of characters right now, so there are a lot of really different personalities on set.

'And it’s super interesting, everyone’s really bringing it. It’s going great. It’s so dynamic because it’s so fast-paced and so complicated. It’s great to be back.”

And he said everyone is tougher than ever in the new series, particularly former This Life star Andrew Lincoln's sheriff's deputy character Rick Grimes.

He said: 'Everybody on the whole team is so badass right now.

'It’s interesting, because a lot of personalities are clashing, or characters’ personalities are clashing. But yeah, we definitely have Rick back.'
