The showrunners and actors have struck the right balance of carnage and character development. "The writing is really good, and we've had four years to work on these characters," he says. "[Daryl] is starting to develop into somebody he can be proud of. He doesn't really need these people, he can hunt and track his own food and protect himself.
But having personal relationships with other people is something he wouldn't have had if [the zombie apocalypse] didn't go down. I think he's starting to find things to stand for, findng his sense of self for the first time through these people. I think that makes him very interesting."
