The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) was recently named the "Biggest Ass Kicker" of 2014, but he said he's more of a wimp in life. We might go with "motivated softie" over wimp, since he's been known to stand up and champion compassionate causes, from animal rights to supporting the troops with care packages.
Norman just shared his support for the latter when posting the photo shown on June 30, writing "It was a privilege to meet you guys today great cause!! Sponsor a hero!! Do it !! Www.herobox.org @heroboxorg."
HeroBox is a non-profit organization that supports deployed, injured, aging and homeless veterans. According to the HeroBox website, its mission is "to provide the physical items and moral support our heroes need while away from home."
Supporters can donate funds to the cause (100 percent tax deductible) or, as Norman wrote, you can Sponsor a Hero through the "myHero program." They'll connect you with a deployed service member in their database, and you'll pack and ship a HeroBox to your hero each month.

Head here for details on that. It sounds rewarding on both sides, and also personal — you're not just giving to "the troops" as a big picture concept, you have a particular person, a new friend/hero, to support. But if you're in a group, you can also sponsor an entire unit.
You know who’d love this idea? Sgt. Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz)! He’s all about a good mission. So make him, and Norman proud, and consider getting involved in honor of Independence Day.
