'The Walking Dead' star Norman Reedus describes a 'feral' Daryl in season 5

Nobody puts baby in a corner, and nobody puts Daryl Dixon in a train car. So how does Daryl feel about the predicament he’s in when season 5 of The Walking Dead kicks off Oct. 12 on AMC? We went and asked the man who plays him, Norman Reedus.

“Wow, he’s trapped in a box, so I think he’s probably pretty feral at the moment,” Reedus told us on a break from shooting his EW Walking Dead cover. “He’s probably a little scared which makes him a little more feral.” So there you have it. A feral Daryl.

But how has current Daryl changed from when we first met the character back in season 1? We asked Reedus that also because…well, he’s sitting right there at our photo shoot just sort of hanging out, so why not? “He’s changed a lot of ways since season 1,” says Reedus. “In season 1 he had such a chip on his shoulder and didn’t think people trusted him and he didn’t trust other people. Everything just kind of came out of the side of his head. This season he’s very much in your face and his shoulders are square to you and he means what he says. He’ll look you in the face. People rely on him now and I think before he thought people would cross the street if he was walking toward you. Now he’s an integral part of the group. People trust him and I think he’s accepted that trust.”

'The Walking Dead' cast compares upcoming season to 'Three's Company'

The Walking Dead might seem like a serious show, but it’s getting a sitcom makeover next season: “It has like a Martin slash Three’s Company feel,” star Danai Gurira deadpanned to EW at Comic-Con.

As you can probably guess, The Walking Dead is most likely not getting a laugh track anytime soon, but the cast was happy to elaborate on some rumors that the show would become more light-hearted when they stopped by the EW Hideout. Lauren Cohan, Norman Reedus, Michael Cudlitz, Steven Yeun, and Gurira also joked about potential Comic-Con disguises and more unlikely Walking Dead scenarios—like picnics.
Watch the recently released season-five trailer for yourself, then watch their interview to compare notes. Moral of the story: Don’t trust anything the cast says.

Entertainment Weekly: We are here with the Beatles of Comic-Con, the cast of The Walking Dead. Hello, everybody. You just came from your panel, right?
Lauren Cohan: Yesterday, we were at the panel.
How’s it felt this year compared to previous years?
LC: The panel we did this morning actually was awesome. It was a really small panel, it was really [unintelligible] and directive. They’re always great, but that was a new addition. We felt so much closer to the fans this year. I think we’ve had a lot more, I don’t know, a lot more direct…
Norman Reedus: We went casual this year too. We decided to have fun and be ourselves. It’s been a blast, this one.
The other half of the cast was in here earlier, and I asked them the same question. The rumors going around the Con are that this is the most light-hearted, feel-good season of the Walking Dead yet.
LC: [Laughs]
It’s been described as a light-hearted romp. That’s what the rumor is. Can you guys confirm?
Danai Gurira: Yes, we’ll go with that.
Michael Cudlitz: It’s definitely the funniest season that I’ve been a part of. [Laughs]
DG: It has like a Martin slash Three’s Company feel.
Steven Yeun: You know that Rosesanne, like season 8 or something?
Where she won the lottery?
SY: Yeah. [unintelligible]
I think the laugh track’s going to be a little weird, but I think you guys will be able to work with it.
LC: There’s so many more picnics. We don’t have a blanket for every picnic, but we definitely found some great picnic baskets and we have like just some really cute recipes we hadn’t brought to the…
Cute survivalist recipes?
LC: It’s tasty.
DG: Squirrel phallus. Really good.
LC: How’s that one? With the balsamic glaze.
DG: And a little bit of cilantro.
How do you guys walk around here? You don’t, right?
LC: I just do one leg. I usually alternate them. [Laughs]
Now we’ve got the literal way you’re walking . You’ve gotta get swarmed everywhere you go, right?
NR: We haven’t really walked around here. We haven’t really done it this year. We did it last year. Let’s do it again.
SY: Get some masks going.
DG: These two do the masks and do their thing.
And you just go out, al fresco?
NR: In the nude?
LC: Yeah, in picnic…
SY: Yeah, I guess that’s the best way they wouldn’t know us is if we’re all ass-naked, but… with the masks. There seems to be a lot more people kind of just around where we’re headed, and it’s really cool. Like last year, we saw some people waiting out for autographs and this year there’s a lot of people waiting out for autographs. and it’s cool because it just means that fans are jumping onto the show more and more and it’s progressing.
And next season, there’s no time jump, we’re just starting right up…
LC: No, it’s 45 seconds.
45 seconds? So not too much time has elapsed then, so we won’t be that confused.
MC: A lot can happen in 45 seconds.
That’s true, that’s true. You come back in October? October 12.
SY: Is that right, October 12?
DG: That’s what it says in the trailer.
SY: Oh. I didn’t watch that.

Walking Dead Comic Con 2014 Panel - Part 1:

Walking Dead Comic Con 2014 Panel - Part 2:

Comic-Con: See 'Walking Dead's' Norman Reedus and Gale Ann Hurd as the Men in Black (Video)

The show's star and producer pose as Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith's iconic characters for THR's graphic novel-inspired "Titans of Comic-Con."

Producer Hurd, 58, has been a genre mainstay for decades thanks to Terminator, Aliens and, now, AMC's The Walking Dead. Reedus, 45, is a crucial member of Dead's non-zombie ensemble.

Do you get to hit the convention floor? Have you ever gone in disguise?

Reedus: The last time I went, Steven [Yeun, who plays Glenn on Dead] went as Spider-Man and I went as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I think people caught on to us.
What are fans like when they meet you?

Hurd: Incredibly respectful because no one's going to have a heart attack because they met me. I'm always impressed that they know I've done work besides The Walking Dead. (Laughs.) When someone says, "I loved Terminator" or "I loved Aliens," that really touches me.

As a fan, is there anyone you geek out over?

Reedus: Oh, man. Last Comic-Con, I took a picture with the dude from Yo Gabba Gabba! and Anthony Bourdain. The three of us. That was kind of my favorite picture.

What's the thing that needs to happen for it to feel like Comic-Con?

Reedus: You know what feels the best? When we have our cast onstage with our producers and the showrunner, and we're looking out at people and they're applauding and asking great questions. It feels like the band's back together.

Comic-Con: 'Walking Dead' Debuts Season 5 Trailer, Sets October Return

The zombie drama will pick up immediately with the cliffhanger from the season four finale, a first for the series.

Continuing its annual Comic-Con tradition, AMC's The Walking Dead used its massive Hall H presence to debut the first footage of its upcoming season and announce a return date during is panel Friday.

Season five of the zombie drama based on RobertKirkman's best-selling comics will return on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m., followed by its Chris Hardwick-hostedcompanion Talking Dead.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple will be back for his second season at the top of AMC's ratings juggernaut, which will see The Wire alum Seth Gilliam join the cast alongside newly promoted series regulars Andrew J. West (Gareth), Alanna Masterson (Tara) and Christian Serratos(Rosita).

The series, which again has a big presence at Comic-Con including a nearby hotel decorated as Terminus — the "sanctuary" where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group were reunited and held hostage in a rail car in the season four finale. Season five picks up immediately after Gareth unknowingly reunited Rick with nearly everyone in his group, save for Carol (Melissa McBride) and Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman).

The panel opened with a parody clip featuring Rick and Glenn (Steven Yeun) beareded and playing cards, still trapped in the Terminus trailer, chowing on the remains of one of the group's members alongside with a bald Daryl (Norman Reedus) and aged Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

"Once they lost the prison and Hershel, all bets were off. They did find out that you can't come back from the things you've done," Gimple said, noting that the group is now much more formidable having done unspeakable things. "This season is going to define these characters." Gimple stopped short of confirming if the people of Terminus are cannibals but said the upcoming season will feature thebackstory of how that community was crated.

Kirkman said this season is going to be "pretty close" to the comics, with Terminus on the surface seeming like a "major departure" before the AMC show gets back on track with the events in the Image/Skybound title.

Exec producer Gale Anne Hurd also teased that season five would feature multiple locations beyond Terminus, including some "possibly" inspired by the comic book that may have a more suburban feel (THR won't spoil the comics here though). "You'll see us take some pretty big leaps with the characters and set pieces — bigger than ever," she said.

EP Dave Alpert also confirmed that Gilliam would indeed be playing Father Gabriel, a key character from the comic series, while EP and VFX mastermind Greg Nicotero also previewed the evolution of the walkers on the series, with slack jaws, and sagging skin. "There's a lot of really cool landscape we're going to explore," he said.

In the trailer, the so-called "Termites" appear to also be on a path to go to Washington in a bid to cure the outbreak, with Gareth offering them an ultimatum in order to survive at the camp, with Bob's life seemingly hanging in the balance.

The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus Clubs Walker With Greg Nicotero’s Saturn Award

During the past four seasons of The Walking Dead, there have been a number of unusual methods used for dispatching walkers. However, Norman Reedus might have come up with the most original way to kill a walker yet in a new video from special effects guru Greg Nicotero.
Last week, Nicotero was awarded the George Pal Memorial Award at 40th Annual Saturn Awards. Because Nicotero was busy doing work on Season 5 of The Walking Dead in Georgia, he couldn’t make it to Burbank to pick up his Saturn Award personally. Instead, Nicotero created a video to express his gratitude for the recognition.
In the video, a walker appears to have made off with Nicotero’s Saturn Award. Luckily, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), and Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) come to the rescue. Rick grabs the Saturn Award away from a walker, and he tosses it to Daryl, who uses the Saturn Award to club another walker in the head. Daryl then tosses the Saturn Award to Abraham, who looks at it before throwing it safely to Nicotero.
Once having his award in hand, Nicotero says, “Wow, guys. I’m so honored. Thank you so, so much to the Academy of Science Fiction and Horror Films.”

The Walking Dead: Norman Reedus Says Hershel Can Never Be Replaced

We’re used to bidding beloved characters (and the actors who portray them) farewell each season on The Walking Dead, but no one’s passing hit the cast, characters, and viewers harder than that of Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson). He was the paternal figure in the group, their moral compass, and his death was all the more painful because he was beheaded by The Governor (David Morrissey).
After Hershel’s death and then the Season 4 finale last spring manyTWD members reflected on what Hershel/Scott’s absence would mean for the group, and now it’s Norman Reedus’ (Daryl Dixon) turn to weigh in. Not surprisingly, Norman took the loss hard and even declared Hershel irreplaceable.
“There’s nobody on our show like Hershel, you can’t replace a Hershel. He brought a certain experience and comfort in his words,” Norman told GoldDerby.com during a video interview. Speaking of Scott, he continued, “He has such an air about him just as a person and when he inhabits a character. I always say in interviews that I want to grow up and be Scott Wilson one day, I think Daryl might have thought the same thing of Hershel. He’s tough and he means what he says, and he’s a good person so I think there are similarities there.”
Hershel’s death will be a tough one to get over, no doubt, and our group isn’t in the best position (trapped in a Terminus train car) as we start Season 5, but there’s still hope to look forward to. Like, for example, the likely reunion between Daryl and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who has yet to reach Terminus.
Sure, we don’t know that a Caryl reunion is in the cards, but it would be a huge missed opportunity for the writers if it didn’t play out. “I think out of everyone in the group she’s definitely one of the top ones that he’ll be most excited to be reunited with,” Norman said of a possible reunion. “He’s always protected her, he’s always had a soft spot for her, and he’s always looked after her. I think he recognizes a lot of himself in her and I think he would do anything to keep her alive and keep her safe. It’s a very close bond between those two.”
Yeah Norman, there’s an entire Caryl fandom that would back you up on that last statement!

Norman Reedus Describes His Most Memorable Fan Encounter — You Won’t Believe What He Was Asked to Do!

Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) has had his fair share of memorable fan encounters involving everything from being gifted squirrel meat to receiving a used breast implant in the mail, but we think this recently revealed request from a clearly devoted fan really takes the cake!

PeoplesChoice.com put together a montage of celebs discussing their most memorable fan encounters and what they involved, and in our opinion Norman’s reveal easily took the cake.
“I blew my breath into a plastic bottle and sent it to Tokyo,” The Walking Dead star said, seemingly without realizing just how strange that statement is. But that, ladies and gentleman, is just part of why we love him so much — he doesn’t think twice when a fan asks him to breathe into a bottle.
Would you like a bottle full of Norman’s breath, or is that just too creepy?
Check out the complete video below to see what other celebs had to say, and tell us where you stand in the comments!

Watch Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus in Japanese Promos For The Walking Dead, With Bloopers (VIDEOS)

Several months ago The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) and Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) headed to Japan on a press tour, and while there, they filmed several Japanese promos for the fourth season of the hit series, which only recently concluded in the U.S..

MoviePilot.com got their hands on two of the latest promos, and they’re pretty entertaining! In the first promo below Andy and Norman take turns speaking aboutTWD Season 4, addressing the lengthy hiatus between the season’s halves. “The Walking Dead is on a break at the moment,” Andy begins before Norman takes over. “Season 4 will be coming back to FOX Japan very soon.”
To play up that they are in Japan, both Norman and Andy are rocking traditional robes. What’s more? Andy’s got a snazzy fan for a prop, while Norman holds an arrow with a feather at the end — very fitting for Daryl’s portrayer!
In the second promo, Norman and Andy take part in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony as a voiceover announces what we presume to be some TWD-related info. But that’s not even the best part. As the clip continues, viewers are treated to several bloopers from Andy and Norman’s promo shoot. At one point Norman sticks out his tongue at his co-star and pal, causing him to break into laughter. “I can’t even look at you,” a smiling Andy tells Norman in a later blooper.
Check out both promos below and tell us what you think!

Norman Reedus Reveals First Celebrity Crush and Prized Gift From Debbie Harry

Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) is the latest star of The Walking Deadto take Entertainment Weekly’s Pop Culture Personality Test (his co-star Emily Kinney did so earlier this year), and his answers to EW’s typical barrage of questions are just as epic as we would have predicted.
Right off the bat Norman spills on his first-ever celeb crush. “Annabella from Bow Wow Wow was my first celebrity crush,” he said of the ‘80s singer without missing a beat. “My second one was Suzanne Somers from Three’s Company, who I met actually at an Oscars party, and I think I was drooling on myself. She said ‘Norman, did you grow up on me?’ And I go, ‘You have no idea!’ I liked all her outfits.”
Are we the only ones picturing young Norman swooning over Chrissy’s colorful getups? We love that his crush on Suzanne came full circle when he met her at an Academy Awards party, too. Who knows, maybe Suze has a little crush on Norman now that he’s a big television star!
Later in the interview, Norman went on to discuss a meaningful gift he received from music icon and Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry. “Debbie Harry gave me some H.R. Giger books. Those are pretty cool. I was a big H.R. Giger fan,” he dished.
Wondering how Norman and Debbie managed to cross paths over the years? Norman recalled a bizarre-sounding movie the pair co-starred in back in 1997 called Six Ways to Sunday. “I did a movie with her where I sleep with her and kill her. First I kill her, then I sleep with her, then I take her dead body on a bus, and we leave town.” Not quite Walking Dead, but it’s getting there!
For more on Norman’s favorite movies (including a few flicks that even scare him!), check out the complete video below !
